Crime and antisocial behaviour top the public agenda, and a harsh spotlight is focused on social housing estates. Landlords are under pressure, from tenants and regulatory bodies alike, to come up with effective counter-measures - but they also have to make a sound business case for any action they take.
Neighbourhood warden schemes are being considered in many areas - but to have real impact they need to be properly funded and taken on board as core business activities rather than peripheral initiatives; the difficulty of assessing costs and outcomes often proves a barrier to effective implementation. And, whether or not they operate a warden scheme, landlords should also be making sure that they are taking full advantage of services available from their local police force. |

This seminar will look at workable processes for costing the implementation of warden schemes and monitoring their impact, and for accessing and making effective use of the range of advice and facilities provided by the police. Based on projects funded by the Housing Corporation's IGP programme, it will focus on overcoming the problems likely to be experienced in establishing realistic costs and estimating benefits, and in developing effective protocols for working with the police.
This event will be of real, practical benefit for any social landlord seeking to counter the damaging effects of crime and antisocial behaviour in ways which not only improve the lives of tenants and other neighbourhood residents, but which also have a positive impact on their own bottom line. |
