A Manifesto for Planning : Section 5 The Next Steps The Deputy Prime Minister, amongst others, has called for a new urbanism and a new professionalism in development and regeneration. In fact much of what the DPM wants from urbanism will be delivered, and can only be delivered, through a more positive practice of planning. Through this statement the RTPI is showing that the planning profession is developing the disciplines and thinking that are required to address the major urban and rural policy issues facing this country. The way ahead lies with government in the UK and others working with professional practitioners and communities to achieve positive outcomes and necessary change - and not in stifling the commitment of the planning profession and others to do so. The RTPI is committed to working with others to achieve change.
